Ms. Danicic, English, Grade 11 and 12, College Preparation

"The English curriculum ... recognizes the central importance of language and literature in learning and everyday life and prepares students for the literacy demands they will face as Canadians and members of the global community ... As students read and reflect on rich variety of literature, informational texts, and media works, they deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them ... Through the study of literature, students strengthen their ability to use language as an effective tool for thought, expression, and communication" (Ministry of Education: Ontario Curriculum, Grade 11 and 12 English). In this course, students will explore media sources, short written works, and the novel. Assessments will include quests, quizzes, presentations, observations and conversations, the final exam, the CCA (course culminating assessment), and formal writing assignments (persuasive paragraph, news report, and essay). Students will have the opportunity to improve their English skills through class conversations, practice activities, group projects, self-assessment, peer-assessment, and formative teacher feedback.
